Jan Wagner Chairman

Jan Wagner is a Process Engineer with over forty years experience. Experience covers conceptual and detail design of crude unit, hydrotreating, delayed coking, heavy oil upgrading, offshore oil and gas production and processing, onshore gas plants, ethylene, fertilizers, food plants, cogeneration, NGL recovery, syngas derivatives (methanol, ammonia, Fischer-Tropsch, DME and hydrogen), utility and offsites for projects in Europe, Africa, North America and Australia.
Jan published and presented numerous technical papers on gas processing, conversion and transportation including marine CNG, gas floating production and processing concepts, associated gas utilization and synthetic fuels production.
Jan received his Master of Science degree in Process Engineering from Czech Technical University in Prague in 1967. Jan is a registered Professional Engineer in Alberta (Life Member).
At present, Jan is the President Wagner Energy Consulting and also works for WorleyParsons Canada as Principal Consultant in the area of Gas Production, Gas Processing and Syngas Derivatives technologies.

Jerry Jelinek Past Chairman

Jerry Jelinek is the first and founding chairman of the CBAC (since 1999) after he had served years as the Chairman of the Calgary Chapter of the Canada Czech Republic Chamber of Commerce. Jerry left his post in 2001 when he was appointed Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic for the Province of Alberta in 2001 and stayed on the Board as a Past Chair.
After finishing High School in Brandys nad Labem, he attended SVST in Bratislava and then Technical College in Prague where he studied surveying, mapping and computer science. Upon immigrating to Canada with his wife and two sons in 1980, Mr. Jelinek worked as a seismic surveyor, survey party chief and seismic survey data processor. He started his own company, Jelinek Surveys Inc (now Jelinek Group Inc.), in 1984 and has been actively involved in Calgary’s business community as well as the greater Calgary community.
Jerry’s great assets to the Association are his experience and knowledge of intergovernmental affairs and international trade. Jerry was promoted to Honorary Consul General in October 2008.

Alena Poremsky Vice Chairman

Alena is one of the first founding members of the organization. The organization started in 1995 in Calgary and was known as the Canada Czech Republic Chamber of Commerce in Alberta. She has served on the Board of CBAC since its establishment in 1999 and before she was elected as a Chair of the assoociation in 2012 she had held several positions including a Treasurer and Vice Chair.
Alena was born in Ostrava, Czech Republic and graduated from the University of Mining in Ostrava. She immigrated with her husband and two year old son to Canada in 1987. She was always involved in the Czech community and served as director of the Czech School in Calgary for three years. Her professional skills and experience in sales raised her to her current position of International Sales Manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa for Evans Consoles Corporation which is a world leader in design and manufacturing of custom control room furniture.
Jarmila ("Mila") Manasek Secretary

Mila is a finance professional who has spent over 25 years working in management positions such as Finance Director, VP Finance and IT, and Controller, for a number of Canadian and US public and private companies in the oil and gas, manufacturing, and service industries. Her responsibilities have included, among others, overseeing and performing all accounting and financial management functions, evaluating impacts of government policies and legislation, strategic planning, tax planning and compliance, development and implementation of policies, procedures and controls, selection and implementation of ERP systems, staff development, and negotiations with business partners. Her assignments frequently involved start-up and turnaround projects, both in Canada and overseas. She has worked in eight countries on three continents and is multilingual. Currently she lives on a farm south of Calgary and consults part-time.
Mila holds a degree in international trade from the University of Economics in Prague and a Canadian accounting designation (CPA, CGA). She is a lifetime learner and, mainly to keep her brain cells busy, enrolled recently in an MBA program.
Mila enjoys travelling, canoeing, sailing, skiing, hiking or simply spending time outdoors where she occasionally tries her hand at painting. She also reads a lot and loves music. She has two daughters who keep her fit and on her toes.

Karel J. Hofman Treasurer

Karel Hofman served on the Board of Directors from the beginning of the Association as a Secretary and was elected to his chairman’s post in 2001. Karel served as a chairman until 2012. During his mandate, Karel expanded CBAC’s business role to cultural, fundraising and other events, and concentrated on promotion of the local Czech and Slovak culture in Canada. Karel’s experience in business, international trade and tourism has added a great value to the Association through his company, Hofman International Inc.
In August 2012 he was bestowed with the Silver Jan Masaryk Honorary Medal by the The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic for his past work in the Association and the Czech Canadian business community
Before he came to Canada in 1983, he studied Mechanical Engineering at the Technical High School in Prague and the Czech Technical University of Prague. Karel has three adult children, two grandchildren, loves the outdoors and his free time is spent traveling and taking part in outdoor activities, especially hiking and mountain biking.

Jana Slootweg Volunteer

Jana has relocated to Canada from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where she commenced her career in Airline Industry, working with Emirates Airlines. While living in Dubai she completed her Master Degree online in Audit Management at University of Nitra. In year 2008 she moved to Calgary and joined Air Canada as Airport Operations Manager at Calgary International Airport. Living as an expat in Middle East and Canada Jana has always been involved in organizing social events, charity projects and establishing relations in a multicultural, multiethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity. Her passion and experience has led her to become a board member at CBAC as a treasurer and social media wizard.
Vaclav Kloud Volunteer

Vaclav relocated to Canada from Aberdeen, United Kingdom, where he studied International Transportation and Global Logistics at University of Aberdeen as postgraduate student. During his life in Czech Republic he completed Master and Bachelor degree in Transportation engineering and telecommunication at University of Pardubice. He was a senator for student council, member of AISEC, active member and volunteer for Czech Logistic Association and volunteer of Crisis Management of Czech Republic. In 2009 he moved to Calgary and worked in transportation and logistics for variable industries. He recently opened own company Cloud’s services and Cloud’s networks.
In 2011 he became member Czech & Slovak association of Canada and year later Czech Business association of Canada. He actively cooperates with Czech & Slovak community in Calgary, coordinate social media, helps coordinate cultural activities and provide information for new residents. In his free time, he enjoy skiing, biking, alpine skiing, motorcycle touring, mountaineering and other mountain adventures.

Monika Pavlickova Volunteer

Monika Pavlickova is a young professional with a master's degree in Economics and Management from Mendel University, Czech Republic. She has lived in Calgary since 2012. She has worked as a manager in the Milano Dining Room And Lounge Ltd. In 2018 she became member of the Czech Business Association of Canada. She is the founder of successful Facebook platform Czech and Slovak friends in Calgary. She actively cooperates with Czech and Slovak community in Calgary, helps coordinate cultural activities and events.
